Eagles HC Nick Sirianni Apologizes to Zach Ertz Following Sideline Incident
Some beef has been squashed since Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was seen in a heated exchange with Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz after their teams’ meeting last Sunday.
Sirianni reached out to Ertz to clear the air after the two had to be separated by security after the Commanders solidified the 36-33 win over the Eagles, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Neither party disclosed what specific words were shared, but the report said that “their brief dust-up saw Ertz take exception to a comment Sirianni made about his performance in the game.”
McLane added in his report that Sirianni and Ertz “had to be separated by Eagles chief security officer Dom DiSandro”
Ertz, who spent the first eight-plus seasons of his NFL career and won a Super Bowl in Philadelphia, recorded one catch for 12 yards in the winning effort over Sirianni’s team.
Sirianni’s first season as the Eagles head coach was the same season that Ertz was shipped off to Arizona for cornerback Tay Gowan and a fifth-round pick.
It’s unclear whether their brief time together had any correlation to the incident between the two of them last Sunday.
Prior to that, there was no history of the two having worked together as Sirianni was not in Philadelphia’s staff in the years leading up to that.
Sirianni, who is known around the league for wearing his emotions on his sleeve, had high praise for Ertz ahead of the Eagles’ Week 11 game against Washington, which Philadelphia won 26-18.
“I think, first and foremost, Zach is an all-time Eagle and was really honored to be around him,” the coach said. “And he’s still playing at a high level in this part of his career.
“So, going through that and him moving on, us moving on in the organization, him getting another fresh start, that was always a tough one because I did really come to really value Zach Ertz the person, Zach Ertz the player. Enjoyed the time I had around him.”
Philadelphia, 12-3, looks on to welcome the Dallas Cowboys at home this Sunday. It can clinch the NFC East with a win or tie.
The Commanders, 10-5, will host the Atlanta Falcons at home. The Eagles can also clinch the division if Washington loses or ties.
