Hamas says it will release Israeli hostages as planned

The Palestinian Islamist Hamas militia said on Thursday that it intends to release three Israeli hostages on Saturday, as scheduled, following mediation talks in Egypt.

This is expected to resolve the current crisis over the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas for the time being.

Hamas announced on Monday that it would postpone the release of hostages, saying that Israel had violated the terms of the peace agreement. This prompted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to say that the war would resume if the hostages were not released.

The talks in Cairo went well, according to a Hamas statement. The Qatari and Egyptian negotiators said they would continue to work to “remove obstacles.”
