Hermitage resident might get to see new pope
(WKBN) — Thursday’s news that a new pope has been picked added a slightly exciting twist to a local woman’s trip to Italy.
Jo Feeney of Hermitage is on a Eucharistic Miracles Pilgrimage in Italy. Currently, she and 41 others are in Assisi, Italy.
The purpose of the trip is to deepen their faith through studying miracles surrounding the Eucharist, the body and blood of Jesus Christ, all around the country.
Next week, they planned to have a papal audience with Pope Francis, but with his passing, things have changed, and they weren’t sure what was going to happen. Now the plans look much clearer.
“So now there’s probably a better chance of us actually, you know, getting to either see him when he’s installed next week or see him at a papal, attend a papal audience with him on Wednesday,” Feeney said.
Feeney is a parishioner with the Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage. She’s traveling with a group out of Our Lady of Peace Parish in Erie. The pilgrimage lasts 11 days, ending on May 16.
