Marc Jacobs Gets in on the Thin-Soled Sneaker Trend With New Styles Available Now

At this point, it’s not a matter of which brands have produced their own take on the thin-sole sneaker trend, but rather which haven’t. From athletic to designer footwear, nearly every brand has gotten in on the action with at least one version of the look. The latest name to join the fray is none other than Marc Jacobs, whose eponymous label launched Monday the new The 72 Spring Sneaker.

The Marc Jacobs 72 Spring Sneaker is available now in four different styles of the standard mesh-based version, a brown suede, a black leather and a distressed denim variation. The sneaker doesn’t seek to reinvent the wheel — it sticks with on-trend details and bold multicolor combinations on its low-profile, Y2K-leaning look — but it offers a new spin on the theme through Jacobs’ playful lens. 

According to the official product description, the Marc Jacobs The 72 Spring Sneaker gets inspiration from “sporty retro aesthetics” and is designed to offer “a feminine twist on casual footwear.”

Thin-soled sneakers continue to be an enduring trend. With roots in the post-pandemic Adidas Samba craze, the latest maturation of the movement involves even slimmer, barely there midsoles. Athletic footwear brands ranging from New Balance to Vans offer their own version of the look, while luxury labels like Bottega Veneta continue to refine their designs. 

The Marc Jacobs The 72 Spring Sneaker is currently available in sizes up to a EU 41, which converts to a U.S. 11 in women’s and 8 in men’s sizing.

Adding to the new sneaker’s appeal is its affordability. While many designer spins on the thin sole trend have commanded premium price points, Jacobs’ new model comes priced at a far more palatable $225, with the suede and leather versions seeing a slight increase to $250.
