MLB News: Marlins Choose New Manager
The Miami Marlins have chosen a new manager.
Los Angeles Dodgers first base coach Clayton McCullough will get his first managerial gig at the major league level with the Marlins in 2025, according to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.
McCullough was chosen from a list of reported candidates that included Detroit Tigers bench coach George Lombard, Cleveland Guardians bench coach Craig Albernaz, Texas Rangers associate manager Will Venable, San Francisco Giants coach Alyssa Nakken, and former Marlins bench coach Luis Urueta.

Venable was hired to manage the Chicago White Sox last week, while Urueta joined manager Bruce Bochy’s staff on the Texas Rangers.
The new manager will have a blank slate. The Marlins fired Schumaker’s entire coaching staff after the 2024 season, in which they lost 100 games.

Miami ranked second-to-last in MLB in earned-run average (4.73) and third-to-last in runs per game (3.93) in 2024. The Marlins had baseball’s 27th-highest payroll and the league’s 15th-best farm system, according to MLB Pipeline.
