Netanyahu responds after Benny Gantz resigns
Moments after Israeli War Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz resigned on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded saying, “Now is not the time to abandon the fight, it is time to combine powers.”
Gantz, who has criticized the Israeli government’s handling of the war against Hamas in Gaza, issued his resignation, stating, “Netanyahu is preventing us from moving forward to a real victory,” in a Sunday evening announcement.
With a “heavy heart, yet wholeheartedly,” Benny Gantz resigned, but before leaving, he requested that Netanyahu set a date for elections, saying, “Do not let our nation tear apart.”
His resignation comes a day after Israel rescued four hostages in an operation that killed 274 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which is controlled by Hamas.
Upon his resignation, Netanyahu posted on X, formerly Twitter, a national call: “Citizens of Israel, we will keep fighting until victory and the achievement of all of the goals of the war, first of which is to free all of our hostages and to eliminate Hamas.”
