Peru woman is second to be charged with murder in Plattsburgh man’s death
PLATTSBURGH, NY (ABC 22/FOX 44) — A Peru woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a Plattsburgh man.
Kelly Timmons, 59, of Peru was arraigned Monday in Clinton County Court. A grand jury indicted Timmons on two charges. She is charged with murder in the 2nd degree and conspiracy in the 2nd degree. The charges stem from the ongoing investigation of the death of Jahfari Joseph, 40, of Plattsburgh.
According to prosecutors, Joseph was shot and killed by Kelly’s ex-husband, Timothy Timmons, 61, of Plattsburgh. The shooting allegedly took place at Kelly’s home in Peru. Police said Kelly provided the gun used to her ex-husband, knowing his intent.
“Had she not turned those guns over, it’s very potential that Jahfari Joseph would still be alive,” said District Attorney, Andrew Wylie.
Kelly Timmons was arrested last Friday and sent to Clinton County Jail. At Monday’s arraignment bail was set at $25,000 cash, $50,000 bond, or $250,000 secured bond with 10% due.
“In some circumstances, like this, Kelly Timmons is not the person who actually fired the firearm,” said Wylie. “The judge would in all likelihood set bail. And that’s why I asked for the amount that I asked for.
According to prosecutors, Joseph was killed at the Timmons Peru home on or around December 29, 2024. Timothy Timmons was arrested in January and charged with second degree murder. Prosecutors say although they had not yet recovered Joseph’s body or the murder weapon there was ample video and audio evidence to arrest and charge Timmons with Joseph’s murder.
Weeks later, on February 13, 2025, Joseph’s body was discovered along Route 26, in the town of Franklin, roughly an hour away from Timmon’s home in Peru.
Wylie said he expects more arrests in this case in the coming weeks.
The victim, Jahfari Joseph’s body will be laid to rest on March 8, 2025.
