Police: Toddler wounded by stray bullet during attempted armed robbery

CHICAGO (WTVO) — A 3-year-old boy was hit by a stray gunshot after an alleged attempted armed robbery on Saturday.

On Dec. 14, around 4:50 p.m., gunfire rang out in the 1000 block of West 14th Street causing a child to be wounded while he was in a nearby apartment in Little Italy, according to authorities.

The incident started when an armed suspect attempted to rob a 20-year-old man in a parking lot near the complex, WLS reported. The shot that injured the toddler was fired in the air, according to CBS.

The 3-year-old was transported to Stroger Hospital with a wound to his left ear.

The 20-year-old was not harmed.

The suspect is not in custody and Area 3 detectives are still investigating the incident.
